Minisymposium in Memory of Professor Ilinca Stanciulescu: Computational Mechanics for Complex Material and Engineering Systems

Tao Jin, University of Ottawa
Tod Laursen, SUNY Polytechnic Institute

This minisymposium is dedicated to the memory of Professor Ilinca Stanciulescu, in honor of her life and her many contributions in computational mechanics. Prof. Stanciulescu’s academic career spanned a wide range of research interests, starting from earning her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in structural engineering from the Technical University of Civil Engineering in Bucharest, a master’s degree in applied mathematics from Bucharest University, her PhD study and postdoctoral work in civil engineering at Duke University, and her faculty appointments at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and Rice University. We are soliciting presentations on the general topic of computational and simulation methods for complex material and engineering systems, including but not limited to, computational modeling of biological tissues and bio-inspired materials in addition to numerical methods for linear and nonlinear dynamics and structural mechanics. We invite Ilinca’s colleagues, former students, friends, and the broader community to join us in celebrating her short but brilliant life.
